Pharo Sugaring Level 1 – Sugaring Foundations

Type of Sugar: Warm Gel (cartridge) for finer hair

Products you will need

  • Gloves
  • Tweezers
  • Warm Cartridges and Roller system
  • Pharo antibacterial cleansing wipes
  • Hydro- entangled Waxing Strips
  • Pharo Apres Sugaring Mist

Pre- Sugaring
Start by using Pharo antibacterial cleansing wipes. Remember to cleanse both front and back of each leg. Each leg will require 1 wipe. Pharo antibacterial wipes will prepare the area by eliminating residual oil, cleansing the skin so that Pharo Sugar will attach to the hair successfully

Sugaring

Step 1 (Feet and shin)

  • For this area (Legs), warm cartridge gel is required.
  • Your cartridge heater dial should not exceed 3, and ideally a level of 2.5 is best.
  • Roll your cartridge over a clean wax strip to check that the gel is warm
enough and flows freely. When applying the gel to the leg ensure your
cartridge is applied on a 45 degree angle and follows the hair growth
down the leg. The hair typically grows in a downward direction
    towards the toes.
  • Start with the front of the clients legs (shins) by applying sugar in 3
    applications, 1⁄3 each part.

Step 2 (side of calf)

  • Ask the client to point their toes of one leg inwards, apply sugar with the roller as far around near the side calf of the leg, apply a strip on top of the sugar, rub down, stretch from removal point and removal in a long and low motion, NOT vertically upwards as this can cause breakages and may not remove the hair cleanly from the root.
  • Ask your client to rest their legs as normal and point their toe, now
apply the sugar from under the kneecap to ankle along the front part
of the shin. Apply a strip on top of the sugar, rub down, stretch again from point of removal and remove in long and low motions.

Step 3 (Inner calf)

  • Ask your client to point their toes outwards now and reapply sugar on
the inner calf, rub, stretch and remove as above. By removing as much hair as possible from the front, this leaves the back of the calf hair with minimal to remove – which generally grows on an angle.
  • Once you have completed both lower legs move onto the client’s
knees. Ask your client to bend their knees slightly and place their feet
flat on the bed. This helps to stretch the skin around the knees and makes it much easier to remove the hair

Step 4 (Knees)

  • Divide the knee into top and bottom sections. Apply sugar to the lower
knee (which is bent), rub down a strip, stretch and remove upwards.
  • Then Apply sugar to the top half of the knee following the direction of hair growth, rub on a strip, stretch and remove against hair growth.
  • Dividing the knee into sections will mean that the removal over the
rounded whole area avoids breakages and correct removal. For some
clients who have very rough skin around the knees Firm Gel may need to be applied with a spatula to remove the hair

Step 5 (Thigh – Outer and Upper)

  • Ask your client to put lay one leg flat (furthest away from you), and now bend their knee (still bent up from knees) inwards. This exposes most of the outer thigh and also stretches the skin naturally for the best application and removal.
NOTE: Thighs can be prone to bruising if the skin is not stretched so it is ESSENTIAL that you always stretch and support the skin to avoid hurting your client.
  • Divide the upper thigh into 3 sections again, like the lower leg, starting with the most outer thigh the hair generally grows sideways, apply, rub, stretch and remove as per earlier instructions.

  • Ask your client to move their knee back to the centre (still bent up) and now apply sugar to the top of the thigh in the direction of hair, which generally will now be growing straight down. Apply, rub, stretch and remove.
  • Ask your client to bend out their knee in the figure 4 position now and apply sugar to the inner thigh on the angle of hair growth. YOU MUST make sure that you support the skin with EVERY removal of the inner thigh because this area doesn’t naturally hold itself tight and you will cause skin lifting and bruising if not supported properly.

Step 6 (Thigh – Inner and Back)

  • Hold the inner thigh tight from the very inner/bottom of the thigh and remove in a low and low movement, never pulling straight upwards towards the ceiling, instead a movement which is horizontal to the skin.
  • After you have completed the clients shins, knees and upper thigh ask your client to roll onto their stomach and continue to remove the hair on the back of the legs (calf). The hair in this area will generally not grow straight down the leg, and instead wraps around the calf

  • Always ensure you follow the hair growth. Be gentle around the back of the knee. You will notice the hair on the back of the thigh grows sideways, sugar in the direction of the hair, rub a strip on, stretch and remove.
  • After you have completed the clients shins, knees and upper thigh ask your client to roll onto their stomach and continue to remove the hair on the back of the legs (calf). The hair in this area will generally not grow straight down the leg, and instead wraps around the calf

Note: Always ensure you follow the hair growth. Be gentle around the back of
the knee. You will notice the hair on the back of the thigh grows sideways, sugar in the direction of the hair, rub a strip on, stretch and remove

Phâro Practice Note

It is safe to reapply the sugar and re-remove over the same area, as the sugar does not adhere to live skin tissue. This means you can confidently treat stubborn hairs multiple times without causing irritation — a major benefit over traditional waxing

Post- Sugaring

Check the area to ensure all the hair has been removed. If there is any hair that has been missed simply re- apply the sugar and remove it. For any shorter hair remove with tweezers.
Whilst your client is on their stomach, use a damp cloth to remove any residual product that may have been left on the area off the back
of the legs.
Spray Pharo Apres Sugaring Mist and massage into the skin, soothing, cooling and moisturizing the skin. Ask your client to roll over and repeat on the front of the legs.

Note: Your client may have a histamine reaction; this is normal and will subside in 2- 12 hours.
